The residential stock is a mix of brick rowhouses, built in Italianate, Neo-Grec, Romanesque Revival and Queen Anne styles by 19th-century developers, alongside converted warehouse lofts from the neighborhood's industrial past.
That industrial history is still visible in individual landmarks — the William Ulmer Brewery, at Beaver and Belvidere Streets, was landmarked in 2010 as the first brewery building in the city to receive that status.
